Being a missionary I get to travel to beautiful places. I have had the privilege to travel to China and Senegal and the Dominican Republic. The women I came in contact with were so courageous and beautiful! They have forever changed my view on women around me. Also, I have had many opportunities to hear stories from women from all around the world. I have noticed that although I have seen such diversity, so many cultural ways of thinking and behaving, all women share so many things in common. Maybe I feel this way because I have a passion for women to be empowered. Maybe my perspective is a little different because of what I have personally experienced in my own life. My hope is that I will be able to see how God views all women. He loves each of us the same. He has no judgement or pre-conceived notions. He loves us wherever we are (both geographical and spiritual). He always gives us hope and strength to conquer whatever we are going through. We may look different, speak different, or even behave different, but we all share the same love from our heavenly Father. That is what connects us to one another.
Here are some examples of stories written by courageous women from all over the world. It is just a sample of many stories told. These women are our modern day Abigail, Esther, Hannah, and Jael. (among others). These stories both inspire and encourage me. These women were strong, courageous and overcame their circumstances. In fact, each of these women’s sorrow was turned into joy. Because of their adversity and faith not to give up, they are able to help others be free from theirs.
In Contempt of Fate by Beatrice Fernando (Sri Lanka)
Girls Like Us by Rachel Lloyd (USA)
A Heart For Freedom by Chai Ling (China)
The Road of Lost Innocence by Somaly Mam (Cambodia)
There are many more of these women around us. We just don’t know their stories. We all have our own story of courage and strength and faith. We can be healed by hearing one another’s stories. We can also strengthen other women by sharing our own story. Recently, I have been sharing a little of mine. Sharing your own story empowers yourself as well as others. Just maybe , it is time for you to share yours!
Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for me.
And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.
I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; lo, I have not restrained my lips, as thou knowest, O LORD. I have not hid thy saving help within my heart, I have spoken of thy faithfulness and thy salvation; I have not concealed thy steadfast love and thy faithfulness from the great congregation.
